Another look at method
This is a gouache of Ewa, our model last week.
The photos are of the same painting at different stages. I am using oil sketch paper that I have coated - very roughly - with straw yellow acrylic gesso.
First up, a rough outline of the main shapes in charcoal.
Then, after rubbing off most of the charcoal I applied some Prussian blue to lay down the most important shapes - and to re-position the odd foot or two. I also added some darks. In this case I wanted to use some purples as the complementary colour to the yellow background.
Adding more colour, laying out more shapes and lines
And now the final state of the work. "Ewa, seated", gouache on oil sketch paper, 43 cm by 61 cm.
